ERTS Ladies win against Eastern Counties
A beautiful day at Harpenden RFC saw Hertfordshire Women host Eastern Counties on Sunday 17th May 2015 in the RFU County Championship. From kick off it was clear that Eastern Counties were much improved from last year and the billed development game approach was thrown out as a very competitive match unfolded between the two sides.
Early pressure from Eastern Counties made it clear that this was going to be a very physical game, and the referee, Mr Pete Ricci, took a moment to remind all sides that high tackles and hair pulling was not the order of the day. With Hertfordshire in possession, a cross field kick from fly-half Captain Nicky Cameron was fielded by an Eastern Counties player who was quickly taken out by Sophie Tyler. Still pushing towards opening up the scoring, a massive drive from Abbie Maxwell took the ball well into the Eastern Counties’ half, only to be penalised for holding onto the ball.
After continuing pressure on the Eastern Counties defence, Hertfordshire finally made it over the try line to score the opening try, with Amy Haughton getting the ball down just to the left of the posts. Captain Camo kicked the conversion which went over thanks to the aid of the posts, taking the score to 7-0.
